When I created Princess Amaya, I thought I was creating a character.
I didn’t realize I was creating a way back to myself.
She was born during a season when I was struggling to fully recognize, accept, and trust the gifts God had given me.
Not because I had never used them.
I had.
When I looked back across my life, I could see the evidence everywhere: the way I naturally saw patterns, helped people make sense of what they were experiencing, connected ideas, asked deeper questions, and helped people move toward clarity.
But somehow, using a gift and believing that it is your gift can be two completely different things.
And that was my identity war. And that was my identity war.

Sometimes the Hardest Gift to See Is Your Own
We can recognize gifts in everybody else.
We can tell someone they’re a leader, a teacher, creative, insightful, or gifted at bringing people together.
But when it comes to ourselves?
“That’s just something I do.”
“Everybody can do that.”
“It’s not really a gift.”
Sometimes the things that come most naturally to us are the very things we have the hardest time valuing.
And somewhere in the middle of that struggle, Princess Amaya appeared.
She became a way for me to explore questions I was still learning to answer for myself:
What does it mean to believe in what God put inside of you?
What if the thing you keep dismissing is actually part of what you were created to carry?
What if becoming who God created you to be requires you to stop arguing with the evidence of who you already are?
Princess Amaya gave me another language for the work I was already doing.
She Helped Me Stop Fighting My Gift
Princess Amaya didn’t give me my gift.
God had already done that.
But creating her helped me see it differently.
Through her, I started realizing that maybe I didn’t have to separate all the different parts of myself.
Strategy.
Storytelling.
Faith.
Psychology.
Encouragement.
Curiosity.
Imagination.
Meaning.
Maybe they belonged together.
Maybe I was supposed to build with them.
And slowly, the fight became acceptance.
Then something else happened.
I shared Princess Amaya with my children.
Then my parents.
Then I started sharing her online.
And people connected with her.
That’s when I realized:
Princess Amaya may have been born through my story, but she wasn’t created only for me.
The character who helped me understand my own gifts started becoming a way to encourage other people to believe in theirs.
And Yes, She’s a Fairy Princess
I wasn’t completely sure how people would respond to that part. 😂
Because I talk about identity, career, motherhood, relationships, faith, clarity, and personal growth.
And then suddenly…
Here comes a tiny fairy princess.
But the more I created with her, the more I understood that she wasn’t taking me away from the work.
She was helping me tell the story of the work.
There are things you can explain through a framework.
There are things you can teach through conversation.
And some things reach people differently through story, imagination, and wonder.
Sometimes the lesson can arrive carrying flowers. 🧚🏾♀️
Then I Put Her on LinkedIn
Which still makes me laugh.
I started sharing Princess Amaya on Instagram.
Then I shared her on LinkedIn.
Yes. LinkedIn.
And somehow, she belonged there too.
Because adults have identity wars.
Moms have identity wars.
Professionals have identity wars.
Creators have identity wars.
People in every season of life can find themselves asking:
Who am I now?
Maybe that’s why Princess Amaya has connected in places I didn’t expect.
So, I’m Bringing Her Home
Instagram is where I share Princess Amaya most often.
But this website is my home base.
And Princess Amaya is part of what I’m building.
So here are the first four videos I’ve shared from her story.
Princess Amaya Video One
Princess Amaya Video Two
Princess Amaya Video Three
Princess Amaya Video Four
I still don’t know exactly where her story will go.
But I know where she started.
She was born during my own identity war.
She helped me see my gifts more clearly.
And now she’s becoming a little source of encouragement for other people learning to recognize theirs.
Maybe that’s what she was supposed to be all along.
A reminder that the things God placed inside of you are worth discovering.
That becoming can feel uncomfortable without being wrong.
And that sometimes the gift you keep questioning is the very gift you’re meant to build with.
Princess Amaya helped me stop fighting mine.
And now I get to see what happens when I let her story grow.
