Happy Labor Day Jewels and Gems! Even Supermom understands the importance of work life balance.
There were many seasons of my life when I could not fully enjoy a day like today.
Not because I didn’t want to rest.
Not because I didn’t value spending time with my family.
And not because I didn’t know I needed a break.
I was simply always behind on something.
There was always something in the house that needed my attention. Something I hadn’t finished. Something I was trying to remember. Something I needed to prepare for the week ahead.
And I didn’t always have a good place to put all of those responsibilities.
So everything felt like it belonged to right now.
That lack of balance created overwhelm.
These days, I’m much better at taking the things that could overwhelm me and sorting them into my week and into my life.
That has taken prayer, perspective, good choices, better habits, and even some career decisions that support the kind of life I want to live.
And because of that, I get to enjoy days like today differently.
Sometimes Balance Looks Like Using the Day You Actually Need
Labor Day gives many of us a little extra margin.
And I think it’s important to remember that you are allowed to decide what that margin needs to look like for you.
If you’re behind on something at home and getting it finished would give you peace, do it.
If you want to eat some good barbecue, laugh with your family, and put your feet up, do that.
If you finally have a little extra time for self-care, take it.
If your version of a good day includes a little bit of everything, that’s okay too.
That’s pretty much what mine looks like today.
I’m doing my hair.
I’m helping my kids with homework.
I’m spending time with my family.
I’m reflecting on how God has blessed me.
And yes, I’m hoping there is some barbecue somewhere in this day too. 😂
I’m grateful for it.
Because there were seasons when an extra day simply felt like another opportunity to catch up.
Now I’m learning to let extra space actually feel like space.
Your Week Doesn’t Have to Look the Same Every Time
Last weekend was more of a recovery weekend for me.
Sometimes life gets full, and you need a couple of days to recover from everything else you’ve been carrying.
This weekend was different.
I spent a lot of time building my website.
And today?
Today is for some self-care, family time, homework, reflection, and whatever else fits naturally into the day.
That’s life.
Every weekend does not have to look the same.
Every day does not have to carry the same amount of productivity.
Balance isn’t creating one perfect routine and forcing yourself to follow it forever.
It’s learning how to build a rhythm that can respond to the life you’re actually living.
Take Control of Your Days
One of the biggest changes I’ve made is learning how to organize my responsibilities so that everything doesn’t feel urgent at once.
Because when you don’t have a place for the things you need to do, they tend to live in your head.
And when everything is living in your head, even rest can feel stressful.
You can be sitting with your family while mentally doing tomorrow’s work.
You can be taking care of yourself while feeling guilty about the laundry.
You can have an entire day available to you and still feel like you’re already behind.
I don’t want that for myself anymore.
And I don’t want it for you either.
With prayer, perspective, and practical systems, I’ve learned how to make my week feel more manageable and more breathable.
Not perfect.
Breathable.
That matters to me.
Because work-life balance is not simply about getting more things done.
It’s also about building a life that leaves enough room for you to enjoy the life you worked so hard to create.
So today, use the day you’ve been given.
Rest if you need rest.
Organize if that will bring you peace.
Spend time with your people.
Take care of yourself.
Get something done if you want to.
And thank God for the gift of another day to live, love, work, grow, and become.
